Serena Williams teases tennis fans as she says ‘I’m not retired’
Serena Williams says she is still a player, and is available just to have fun again and she says she wouldn’t make the same mistakes she made during the past couple of months.
The tennis star says her career has been in a downward spiral for almost exactly 24 hours, and is back on her feet again.
The 20-time Grand Slam winner says that the past couple of months have been the worst of her entire career because of some of the mistakes she made.
“I would have been happy to retire when I first started but now, it is more fun to win one day. That’s what I do,” Williams told The New York Times.
“I’m not retired. I’m just not playing. I’m a little shy. I’m a little nervous, to be honest. I’m a little shy about speaking up. It’s more fun to have fun than to just play.”
She even admitted that she wasn’t entirely comfortable with the criticism she received last month after she had an outburst at a press event.
“There were a lot of times where I thought I was really going to lose it,” she said. “But I kept it together. I kept it together, because that’s the person I am. But I’ll never know for sure, I won’t know how I made it back. Like everything else, I have to keep it in. I have to keep it in and learn from it and just do my thing.”
Williams said that she felt more comfortable about herself after she played again this month.
“I’m a little more confident,” she said. “I know what I can do. I can go out there and I know I can do it.”
